I’m a big fan of engagement sessions, which is why I offer one with most of my wedding package (or at a big discount). It’s not just about getting pretty pictures, it’s about getting to know each other better and learning how to relax into your professional shoot. Here are a few of the major perks I think there are to scheduling in an engagement session.

A Chance to Connect

Photography is all about capturing the memories, emotions and real moments of your life and special celebrations. To do this I really like to try and connect with my clients, take time for some random chit chat and get to know more about you and your connection with each other. An engagement session is a more casual shoot, it’s easier to relax and we can do whatever we feel like. It’s a chance to learn more about each other, and for you to get used to the style that I shoot. (It’s a lot more fun and relaxed than you might expect!)

Practice for the Big Day

Many people have never had a professional photo shoot (at least as adults) by the time they’ve come to book their professional wedding photographer. Lots of my clients start by saying “I’ve never done this before” or “I hate having my photo taken” or “I don’t know how to do this”. An engagement session with me isn’t just another scary photo, it’s fun! An engagement session alleviates the fears many have about what to expect. We can run, dance, twirl and play, and you can get to know what it feels like to have natural photos of you taken. It helps to make the big day that little bit less scary.

No Audience

On your wedding day you will normally be surrounded by all your family and friends. It sooo good to share the special moment in your lives with those closest to you and have a big party! If you feel uncomfortable being the centre of attention, this can make you feel a little awkward during your portrait shoot. Having excited family and friends following you around and watching you pose or cuddle can make it hard to relax. (This is one of the reasons I love having at least a few minutes where the 3 of us can duck away for some portraits). An engagement session gives us the time to play and relax and take some really fun and happy photos without feeling embarrassed because people are watching.

Your Options Are Open

Your engagement session can take place any day, any time, anywhere. You’re not bound by a wedding schedule that needs to cater to your ceremony, guests and food. We can dance on a beach at sunset or skip through a garden in the warm afternoon.
